Head of State's Birthday - January 4, 2008
Followed by the annual golf tournament to honour His Highness Malietoa
Tanumafili II on his birthday at the Royal Samoa Country Club.
Marist Samoa International Rugby Sevens - February 2008
Preceded by the pre-Sevens golf tournament on the 20th of February, the
Marist Samoa International Rugby Sevens runs on the 24th & 25th of February
2008.
Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament - every May
The Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament occurs annually in May.
Competitor teams from all around the world are welcomed for a week of
exciting game fishing, along with fun and merriment for all participants and
their families.
Independence Day - June 1st, 2008
Samoan Independence is celebrated on the 1st of June each year. The
occassion is marked with an early morning march and service in the capital,
Apia, and a number of other activities including fautasi (longboat) races.
Siva Afi Competition - June 7-9, 2008
This event is held in June every year. The Siva Afi (Fire dance) Competition brings in local competitiors as well
as competitiors from New Zealand, Australia and Hawaii to showcase their
talent and to compete for the title of best siva afi dancer.
It is held at the Laumei Faiaga Cocktail Bar at Sogi.
Teuila Festival - September 2008
The Teuila Festival 2008 is a 3 day event with many cultural displays
including weaving, carving, and traditional dance. There will also be
kirikiti (Samoan cricket) tournaments, canoe racing and fautasi (long
boat) races.
A floral parade is held on the Friday morning, providing an opportunity to
see the beautiful ladies contesting for the Miss Teuila Pageant on the
following night.
White Sunday - October 12, 2008
White Sunday is a special day for all the children of Samoa. The children of different religions perform plays enacted from the bible to replace the normal sermon given by the church minister.
It is colourful day for all the churches in Samoa as they are beautifully
decorated with different coloured flowers.
Palolo Rising - every October/November
Come experience and taste Samoa's own cavier. Palolo (egg sperm) is known as
a Samoan delicacy and rises out of the sea only twice a year, being October
and November.
Take part in this event of catching palolo with the locals and observe age
old traditions involved in catching this Samoan delicacy.
