Polynesian Airlines is Samoa’s government-owned airline, and connects Apia to Tonga, Niue and American Samoa. North American, Australian and New Zealand visitors can fly direct on Air New Zealand, or connect via a number of airlines in New Zealand and Australia. Polynesian Blue flies frequently from New Zealand and Australia. Air Pacific has a direct flight once a week from Hawaii and Fiji. Be careful to watch your baggage, as irregularities occur frequently. You will require the local currency, tala, in order to hire a cab at the airport. A currency exchange is located at the airport. A fee of $40 tala departure tax is charged upon your exit.
